WELCOME TO THE PENPALS SHRINE!!!

Penpals is one of my favorite bands of all time. You may recognize them from the opening of the 90s Bersek Anime, but they've actually been making music for nearly 30 years!!

This site is basically going to be where I store all of my Penpals nerdshit since I'm always on the hunt for some. Albums, bios, pictures, you want it? It's yours my friend. The Penpals community is small but very passionate, so I hope to gather whatever cool info I can find on the band and share it with other fans! :D

Who the hell are Penpals?

Penpals are singer/bassist Munemasa Hayashi, and the Kamijo twins, with Moriya on guitar and Kinya on drums. Former members of the band include Kenji George (finding information on this guy is very difficult, but seems he was part of a different project before temporarily joining the band. He's since left.) and Yoshito Hirai, who joined after his former band YOUNG PUNCH broke up in around 2000. To date, they've released 10 albums, with their first being their self titled Penpals in 1997, and their latest being 1973, which came out in 2023. They recently released a single, EMOGUYS, about a month ago, which suggests that a new album could come around sooner rather than later. Penpals first broke up in 2004, before a brief revival in 2012. After that concluded, they re-formed as a three-piece in 2021 and have been making albums consistently since.

Where can I find Penpals stuff?

You can follow Penpals on twitter here

to find out about what they're up to these days. All info on tours, releases, etc can be found there. Additionally, you can find a link to their website here if you'd like to buy some merch to support the band.

As for what you can find here, I'll try to document whatever obscure stuff I can find while also providing links to check out their work. You'd think a random band from Japan wouldn't be that hard to document but these guys were really busy back in their heyday.
